The Geekvape Aegis Legend 5 kit is sold in several configurations, and the box that arrives does not always match the listing read before buying. The tank, the factory-fitted coil and the tank capacity all shift with the version and the retailer.

Add batteries that must be bought separately, with a shape requirement spelled out in the official listing. It pays to know all this before opening the carton, then to set the mod up without burning the first coil.

Aegis Legend 5 kit, what you really find in the box

The Aegis Legend 5 kit pairs a 200 W box mod running on two 18650 cells, not included, with a tank from Geekvape’s Z range and two Z coils, one fitted and one spare. A spare glass, a bag of seals, a USB-C cable and the manual complete the set.

The mod measures 56 mm wide and 146 mm tall according to Geekvape’s official store. It carries a 1.08-inch colour TFT screen, the AS 4.0 chip, an IP68 rating and an A-Lock switch, a side slider that locks the buttons to stop the device firing in a pocket.

Power adjusts from 5 to 200 W. That ceiling belongs to the mod rather than the kit, since neither supplied coil asks for more than 85 W.

Two tanks and two coils depending on the version

Geekvape’s store offers the kit with a choice of two tanks, and retailers do not all describe the same box. Before ordering, three lines of the listing deserve a careful read.

Z Sub-Ohm Tank 2021 or Z Sub-Ohm Tank 5

On its store, Geekvape sells the kit either with the Z Sub-Ohm Tank 2021 or with the Z Sub-Ohm Tank 5. Both take Z series coils and offer an open draw built for direct-lung vaping. One UK retailer simply calls it the Zeus tank, without naming the model.

The factory-fitted coil

The official listing gives a Z 0.15 ohm XM coil rated at 70 to 85 W, alongside a Z 0.4 ohm XM coil at 50 to 60 W. The UK retailer consulted lists a 0.2 ohm coil at 70 to 80 W as the fitted one instead. Both sources agree on the 0.4 ohm. For the factory-fitted coil, the gap may come from another version of the kit or from an older listing, and only the box you receive settles it.

Capacity, 5.5 ml or 2 ml

Geekvape supplies a 5.5 ml glass with the standard version and a 2 ml glass with the TPD version. In the UK, the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016 cap refillable tanks for nicotine e-liquid at 2 ml, and nicotine e-liquid at 20 mg/ml in bottles of no more than 10 ml. The 2 ml TPD version is therefore the one built for British shelves, and a listing quoting 5.5 ml describes the standard version.

The 18650 cells for the Aegis Legend 5, the condition to know

The mod runs on two 18650 cells in series, for a nominal 7.4 V. They are not supplied, and Geekvape’s listing adds a valuable detail. Both ends of each cell must be flat, otherwise the battery door will not close.

A button-top cell, the kind sold for torches, is therefore a problem. The shape of the positive end is worth checking on the cell’s own listing before buying.

The two cells must also work as a pair. Same model, same age and the same charge level when they go in, because in series the weaker cell holds the other back. Our guide to choosing a box mod covers the checks to run on cells and how to store them.

The mod charges over USB-C. Geekvape gives an operating range of 0 to 45 °C and a storage range of -20 to 60 °C, a useful figure for anyone who leaves the mod in a car in summer.

The kit’s coils against the mod’s limits

The official store publishes three electrical limits, a 45 A output current, a 12 V output voltage and a resistance range of 0.1 to 2 ohms. With the two supplied coils, the mod stays well clear of those limits, as the working shows.

Kit coilTop of rangeCurrent through the coilOutput voltageCurrent per cell (7.4 V pack)
Z 0.15 ohm XM85 W23.8 A3.57 V11.5 A
Z 0.4 ohm XM60 W12.2 A4.90 V8.1 A

Current is the square root of power divided by resistance, and voltage the square root of power multiplied by resistance. The current each cell supplies is worked out separately, by dividing the power by the pack’s nominal voltage, before circuit losses. That is the figure that guides the choice of cells for this kit, since their continuous discharge rating needs to exceed it with a margin.

The same listing nonetheless claims Z coil compatibility from 0.1 to 3 ohms, while the mod stops at 2 ohms. It also names Smart, Power, Boost, Eco, TC and Memory modes in its text, then ECO, SMART, NORMAL, CUSTOM and TC in its parameters. Only the parameter list matches a retailer’s, and that is the one this guide relies on.

Setting up the Aegis Legend 5 kit without burning the coil

The first few minutes decide how long the first coil lasts. Three steps are enough.

The wick comes before everything else. Fill the tank and let it soak for a good five minutes before the first puff. A factory-fitted coil has never seen liquid, and dry cotton scorches very quickly at 70 W.

On the power side, start at the bottom of the range Geekvape gives for the coil, 70 W for the 0.15 ohm or 50 W for the 0.4 ohm, and climb in 5 W steps.

That leaves the lock. Slide the A-Lock into the locked position whenever the mod leaves your hand. The day the flavour changes or the cotton tastes burnt, our guide on when to change a vape coil helps tell a setting that is too high from a worn part.

FAQ

These questions cover using the kit over the following weeks, alongside the setup described above.

Does TC mode work with the supplied coils?

Temperature control needs a resistance wire designed for it, such as nickel, titanium or some grades of stainless steel. The kit’s Z coils are set in watts according to their published ranges, and power mode remains the simplest way to run them.

Which e-liquid suits the Z tank?

A low-resistance direct-lung tank pairs well with a liquid where vegetable glycerine dominates, such as a 30/70 blend. Our guide to choosing e-liquid explains what each ratio changes.

Can you fit a different tank on the mod?

Yes, the mod accepts other atomisers within its 0.1 to 2 ohm range. Check the new tank’s diameter and its coil’s power range. Below roughly 0.72 ohm (12 V squared divided by 200 W), the mod can deliver its full 200 W, so it is up to the vaper to stay within the range set for the fitted coil.

What if the mod will not switch on after a battery change?

Check the orientation of the cells, shown in the manual, and that the door is fully closed. A button-top cell or a damaged wrap stops contact, and a cell with a torn wrap should be replaced straight away.

Does the IP68 rating cover the whole kit?

Geekvape gives the IP68 rating to the mod. No rating is claimed for the tank, whose glass and open airflow remain the weak points of the kit in a fall or in the rain.

Aegis Legend 5 kit, the essentials before ordering

The Aegis Legend 5 kit keeps its surprises for the listing, not for use. The tank and the factory coil vary with the version and the source, and only the 2 ml TPD version fits the UK rules.

Plan for a matched pair of flat-top 18650 cells, let the first coil soak and start at the bottom of its range. The rest settles within a few puffs.

Reading a spec sheet and recalculating its figures remains the best habit when choosing a kit, and the Aegis Legend 5 is a good example of why.
